    ‘Leadership is a must in nursing, midwifery management’

    It is essential for those holding management positions in nursing and midwifery services to possess leadership values and quality and ensure their subordinates are able to carry out their duties according to set standards, said Brunei Darussalam Nurses Association (Penjuru) President Datin Paduka Hajah Dayang Suraya Noraidah binti Abdullah at the Nursing and Midwifery Leadership and Management: Applying Nursing and Midwifery Leadership and Management Theory Into Practice forum.

    “They need to be attentive to the current situation and handle it professionally, especially in matters related to patient care,” added Datin Paduka Hajah Dayang Suraya Noraidah.

    The forum, organised by Penjuru in collaboration with the Nursing and Midwifery Programme at the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Institue of Health Sciences (PAPRSB IHS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam at the Al-‘Afiah Hall of the Ministry of Health (MoH), saw over 100 participants.

    Penjuru’s Social and Welfare Committee head Zaiton binti Haji Abdullah chaired the forum.

    Association General Secretary Haji Jofery bin Haji Abdul Rahman shared ‘Practical Leadership and Management Skills for beginner Nurses and Midwives’.

    Reader Master of Health Sciences and Doctor Philosophy (Nursing) of PAPRSB IHS Abdul Hadi Zulhiqman bin Abdul Rahim discussed ‘What The Book Says versus Reality of Nursing Leadership and Management’, while Nursing Officer Special Grade from the Department of Nursing Services at the MoH Hajah Ramlah Kisut delivered a presentation on ‘What Does It Take To Be A Nurse, Midwife Leader: Professionalism, Emphatic and Ethical Leadership’.

    The forum focused on how leadership and management skills can contribute to a more efficient, high-quality and safe healthcare, enhancing decision-making and patient care while reducing the burden of responsibilities among nurses and midwives.
