The Youth Movement Leadership Course 2022: Youth Management Project, ended with a certificate presentation ceremony at the Youth Centre in Pekan Bangar, Temburong District on Thursday.
Youth and Sports Department (JBS) Director Umi Kalthum binti Haji Abdul Karim presented the certificates.
The course on Wednesday and Thursday at the Temburong District Youth Centre was in collaboration with the Society for Community Outreach and Training (SCOT) as its strategic partner.
The Youth Movement Leadership Course is an annual JBS programme started in 2019. The course has been conducted four times with Outward Bound Brunei Darussalam (OBBD).
The programme serves to upgrade participants’ leadership skills through experiential learning at OBBD.
As this year had the initiative to activate youth associations and movements, the course for the first time included a basic introduction to youth management projects.
The introduction was conducted in two sessions – one for youth in the Brunei-Muara and Temburong districts, and another for youth in Tutong and Belait districts to be conducted on November 23 and 24 at the Tutong District Youth Centre. The course objectives include providing basic knowledge in project management, particularly in preparing working papers, budget, time guidelines and reports, to enable the youth to be organised implementers as well as improve their capabilities to work in a group.
A total of 26 youth comprising 13 males and 13 females aged 18 to 35 participated in the first session of the course where priority was given to youth active in youth movements including youth associations, youth clubs, mosque youth groups, Village Consultative Councils (MPK), Student Representative Councils (MPP) and social entrepreneurs.
The ceremony began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah led by youth member from Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAIDS Council) Awangku Muhd Haziq bin Pengiran Haji Muhd Japar, followed by the presentation of working papers.
Umi Kalthum presented the certificates, and the event concluded with a group photo and recitation of Doa Selamat.
Under the guidance, encouragement and training provided through the course, JBS hopes to help and boost the spirit of youth in implementing activities in an organised and systematic manner aside from moving in tandem with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports as the strategic partner in building and empowering youth, particularly in meeting the objective of the National Youth Policy and Strategy 2020-2035.
