Layang were crowned of the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (FABD) Grassroots Football Sunday League after finishing top of the eight-team table.

The closing ceremony and prize presentation was held at the FABD Artificial Football Field in Berakas yesterday.

Raja Udang finished runners-up while Murai settled for third place.

Held in celebration of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)-FABD Grassroots Football Day which has been running since August this year, the Sunday League provided the community a platform to enjoy the sport with their family and friends during the weekend.

The Sunday League is a pilot project held in Brunei-Muara District involving eight under-12 teams – Kenari, Layang, Merpati, Murai, Nuri, Pipit, Tiong and Raja Udang.

FABD President Pengiran Haji Matusin bin Pengiran Haji Matasan and Imagine Sdn Bhd (imagine) Vice President of Business Development and Partnership Haji Mohd Radziman bin Haji Abdul Rahman presented the prizes.

Pengiran Haji Matusin said, “I am keeping the hope for parents to encourage their children to continue playing football.

“This is because FABD and Brunei are in need of players with quality characters.

“Insya Allah we can produce players who can represent the country well in the future.”

Meanwhile, Haji Mohd Radziman said, “As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are advocates of physical wellness.

“This is important as imagine continue to support the Ministry of Health towards curbing non-communicable diseases such as obesity especially among a generation of youth that prefer gadgets.”

The Sunday League will be followed with an Inter-District Grassroots League involving under-12 players from all four districts next month.
