The third Korean cooking demonstration received an overwhelming response from Korean food enthusiasts. Among the participants were Owen and Heather Ross, an expatriate couple from Ireland.
Owen, a teacher at Sultan Muhammad Jamalul Alam Secondary School, and Heather, working remotely in language assessment, were introduced to the event through their daughter’s friend, whose mother is associated with the Korean Embassy in Brunei Darussalam. Their love for Korean food, with its healthy and spicy appeal, prompted their decision to join the event. They shared their fondness for Korean dishes, especially kimchi.
At the cooking demo yesterday, Chef Lee Kisu showcased two dishes, a popular Korean street food called tteok kkochi and bulgogi pasta, a fusion of bulgogi with classic western pasta.
In his welcoming remarks, Korean Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Kim Soung-eun shared that the dishes are the most-voted ones from a menu poll in February. He said, “It will be a unique culinary experience that many of you may be trying for the first time today.”
Najibah, a Korean food enthusiast, also participated in the cooking demo and expressing her love for Korean food and culture, which she discovered through Korean movies and cooking videos. “The event is very insightful since we can learn directly from the Korean Embassy’s chef,” she said.
According to the embassy, two more cooking demonstrations will take place in conjunction with the annual Korean Festival at Times Square Shopping Centre from September 1 to 3. – Lyna Mohamad
