Khatam Al-Quran marks renaming of capital

A Khatam Al-Quran ceremony in conjunction with commemorating the 53rd anniversary of the renaming of Brunei Town to Bandar Seri Begawan was held at Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital yesterday.

Permanent Secretary (Security and Welfare) at the Ministry of Home Affairs Salminan bin Haji Burut, as representative of the Minister of Home Affairs, was the guest of honour.

The Khatam reading was led by Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah student Muhammad Azib bin Muhammad Azim while Takhtim and Doa Khatam were read by imam Mohd Hasnal bin Haji Mohammad.

Over 700 people participated in the event, comprising officers and staff of government departments, students of higher education institutions, private sector, associations and the public.

The event is organised annually by the Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department. – Azlan Othman
