KABUL (XINHUA) – Police in Afghan capital of Kabul have arrested a drug baron and confiscated a huge amount of illicit drugs including heroin from his possession, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported yesterday.

The news agency quoted the spokesman for Kabul police, Khalid Zadran, as saying that the police have recovered and confiscated a huge quantity of heroin, hashish and other objects used in manufacturing heroin.

However, the state-controlled media outlet did not specify the identity of the alleged drug trafficker.

Similarly, police seized 500kg of opium poppy from a truck in northern Takhar province and arrested three persons for smuggling the contraband several days ago.

The Taleban-run administration has banned poppy cultivation in the country and vowed to fight until the country gets rid of the drug menace.
