JS FT win first Serikandi BSRC Football Festival

JS FT edged out ISC FC 2-1 in a penalty shootout in the finals of the first-ever nine-a-side football festival that ended after a tense match in a 1-1 draw.

Held at the Brunei Shell Recreation Club (BSRC) football fields on November 19, the festival was organised by the club and Serikandi Cafe and Restaurant.

Some 14 teams competed, including JS FT, Wasan FC, Ar Rawda, 1RGR Tuker Line, Anchorage FC, X26 FT, and Brunei Methanol in Group A; as well as ISC FC, Serikandi FC, Brummies FC, KB Warriors Veteran, Bang Garap FT, BSRC FC, and TGOC FT in Group B.

Over the course of the festival, teams competed against each other in a round-robin format in their respective groups, with the top two teams proceeding to the semi-finals of the competition.

JS FT gained a sizeable lead against Serikandi FC as the match concluded 3-0, while ISC FC secured their spot in the finals against Wasan FC with a 2-0 win.

Wasan FC sneaked in a goal against Serikandi FC, narrowly taking third place.

During the penalty shootout in the final, Md Amirul Hamrey from ISC FC struck first by scoring a goal for his team, both Md Nazry Aiman and Shahrazen Said from JS FT netted goals back to back, which resulted in the match ending 2-1.

Executive Committee member of the Football Association of Brunei Darussalam Morni bin Haji Zakaria, Serikandi Chairman and Managing Director Shaikh Haji Khalid bin Shaikh Haji Ahmad and BSRC General Manager Yasmin binti Yusof handed prizes and trophies to the teams.

The first place team JS FT also received the Challenge Cup for being the first team to win the nine-a-side Football Festival. – Daniel Lim
