A recent joint operation led the authorities to nab several people for various offences.
The targeted areas included commercial premises in Bandar Seri Begawan, specifically Jalan McArthur, Jalan Sultan and Jalan Roberts. A roadblock was also set up at two locations in the surrounding areas of Bandar Seri Begawan.
A total of 176 vehicles were checked, resulting in nine compounds being issued.
The Royal Customs and Excise Department detained two individuals for possessing alcohol and cigarettes under Section 146(1) of the Excise Order 2006.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) detained three individuals under the Misuse of Drugs Act.
The Department of Electrical Services (DES) found violations in two premises. The Department of Labour recorded statements from 53 workers across 19 companies, identifying offences under the Employment Order 2009.
The Authority on Building Control and Construction Industry (ABCi) identified two premises requiring further inspection and structural review.
Meanwhile, the Human Trafficking Unit interviewed 23 foreign workers, with no indicators of human trafficking found. The Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) conducted checks on 46 foreign workers, with no violations detected.
The Royal Brunei Police Force, in collaboration with enforcement agencies carried out the joint operation involving 238 personnel from the Brunei-Muara Police District Headquarters.
Personnel from the Human Trafficking Unit, Royal Customs and Excise Department, NCB, INRD, Internal Security Department, Department of Labour, Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Department, DES and the ABCi participated in the operation.
The operation aimed to curb criminal activities ahead of the Thanksgiving prayer ceremony and the culmination of the general assembly for Brunei Darussalam’s 41st National Day Celebration tomorrow. – James Kon
