Internet connectivity handover ceremony signifies support for community

Muara Maritime Services (MMS), Progresif Sdn Bhd and the Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei yesterday held a handover ceremony marking the implementation of enhanced Internet connectivity for SMARTER Brunei.

Commercial Managing Director of MMS Haji Mohamed Zainol Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Ja’afar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Progresif Hajah Nurul Haniah binti Haji Jaafar and Vice President/CEO of SMARTER Brunei Sharifah Adila Surya binti Malai Haji Abdullah attended the event.

MMS partnered with Progresif in supporting the ‘Adopt a School’ initiative through Progresif’s Phase 2 of the Donate Data campaign.

The partnership, aimed at supporting SMARTER Brunei, focuses on elevating digital infrastructure and connectivity capabilities.

MMS sponsored a year-long Wi-Fi connectivity service, provided by Progresif, to SMARTER Brunei, specifically benefiting the SMARTER Edge Centre in Kampong Mata-Mata and aimed at enhancing the learning of the children at the centre.

“The Donate Data campaign stands as a cornerstone of our dedication to equipping the digital learning community with essential online resources, particularly Wi-Fi connectivity, to support quality education aligned with Brunei Vision 2035 vision.

“Taking this commitment, a step further, we introduced ‘Adopt a School’ in 2021, inviting reputable companies, like MMS, to sponsor a school and contribute to the enhancement of our local education system,” said Hajah Nurul Haniah.

The ‘Adopt a School’ campaign is an initiative focused on sponsoring Internet connectivity, facilitated by stakeholders in Brunei.

The selection of schools is predetermined and listed by the Ministry of Education (MoE), streamlining the process for stakeholders to make meaningful contributions to the enhancement of Internet resources in education.

Meanwhile, ‘Adopt a School’ campaign Phase 1 of Donate Data campaign was launched in 2021, championed by MoE, where the core objective of this campaign was to support online learning and enhanced digital lifestyle for students and teachers across the nation.

The concept in the Phase 1 initiatives were contribution of donation from the public through short message service then converted into data value, sponsored to schools selected by the MoE.
