Efforts need to be intensified in making Pekan Bangar a must-visit tourism destination after the completion of the Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien (SHOAS) bridge boosted tourism activities in the Temburong District, said a Legislative Council member during yesterday’s 19th Legislative Council session.
During the deliberation of motion of thanks, Yang Berhormat Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir noted that Temburong, as the country’s “green jewel”, has vastly contributed to the progress in the domestic tourism industry.
“The construction of SHOAS Bridge has provided ease of travel and boosted social and tourism activities in the district,” he said.
“Therefore it is important to draw up a more practical Pekan Bangar tourism development plan and provide more public facilities that are considered ‘tourist friendly’.
“This could include a well-equipped hospital with comprehensive and tourist-friendly health services to add medical tourism activities to the Temburong District.
“In addition, efforts towards upgrading infrastructure and telecommunications in places of visit should be a priority,” he said.
