Industry trainers play vital role in workforce development

Izah Azahari

The role of industry trainers is highly crucial in preparing and continuously developing the workforce. Without qualified and certified trainers, it would be difficult to assure quality training of trainees.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy Haji Azhar bin Haji Yahya said this during a ceremony to award certificates to 39 Training of Trainers Certification Programme participants yesterday.

SEAMEO Voctech held the ceremony both at the Seri Kerna Hall of SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre and online.

The participants were awarded with professional certification as trainers at the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) Regional Centre.

Haji Azhar congratulated participants as well as SEAMEO Voctech for conducting the flagship training programme, adding that through the training and certification programme, Brunei Darussalam is addressing the qualified trainers shortage issue.

“This development is also in line with the Ministry of Energy’s (ME) initiative on Human Resource Competency Framework (HRCF) and the Energy Industry Competency Framework (EICF), whereby the quality of our workforce must meet certain competency standards,” he added.

Meanwhile, SEAMEO Voctech Centre Director Haji Alias bin Haji Abu Bakar lauded participants for completing the course and becoming certified trainers. He expressed gratitude for the support from registered training bodies Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council (BDNAC) and Safety, Health, and Environment National Authority (SHENA), and NOCN-UK as well as training partners PTB-NISAI-Brunei and NISAI UK, and NOCN-UK for their contributions in ensuring the success of the training programme.

The Training of Trainers is a flagship training programme by the TVET Regional Centre that aims to prepare quality and competent trainees for the workforce and contribute to the national economic development and sustainability.

The centre has conducted seven training sessions for 82 participants, 12 of whom received their certification last year, while the remaining 29 will join in the success of their training colleagues once the requirements are fulfilled.

Together with the success of the Training of Trainers, SEAMEO Voctech continues to move forward to offer other training programmes.
