HR professionals meet to share best practices

The Brunei Institute of Leadership and Islamic Finance (BILIF) in collaboration with the Civil Service Institute (IPA) organised a symposium for human resource (HR) professionals to explore new approaches and best practices in developing talents to ensure organisations’ readiness in adapting to future changes, technologies and demands.

The virtual event themed ‘Unleashing Potential, Transforming the Future’ was attended by over 40 HR professionals from the public and private sectors. They were welcomed by BILIF Chief Executive Officer Hajah Sufinah binti Haji Sahat.

The symposium saw prominent professionals sharing their insights surrounding the theme, including Pro Chancellor of University of Cyberjaya (UOC) in Malaysia Tan Sri Dato Dr R Palan delivering a presentation on ‘Post Pandemic Lessons for Unleashing Potential’.

Special presentations by Dr Fermin Diez of the Faculty in Human Resources at National University of Singapore (NUS) and HR Leader and Master Trainer at the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Derek Tan were also held.

Among the featured topics discussed included ‘Unleashing Potentials, Transforming the Future: Strategies and Executions’, ‘Fact or Fallacy: Great EX Leads to Better CX’ and ‘Leveraging on Multigenerational Workforce’.

Speakers included Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Dr Hazri bin Haji Kifle; Head of Manpower Planning and Employment Council (MPEC) Secretariat Dr Hajah Siti Haziah binti Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin; Human Resources Director at Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) Hajah Zainab binti Haji M A Omar; Executive Director and Head of Monetary Management and Head of Human Resources at Brunei Darussalam Central Bank (BDCB) Hajah Nurhuaida Fakhriah binti Haji Damit; Chief Human Resources and Administration Officer at Progresif Muhammad Yazdi bin Yahya; and senior training officers at IPA Mohammad Norazlin bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Kassim and Haji Mohamad Saiful Hazmy bin Haji Mohd Yussof.

HR Director at Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC), Malaysia Sugunah Verumandy; Chief Human Resource Officer at SP Setia, Malaysia Nadiah Tan; independent trainer and coach Karen Ong; and regional HR leader and consultant at SHRM Tham Chien Ping were the other speakers.

The event concluded with closing remarks from IPA Director Dr Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Md Salleh.

BILIF, formerly known as Centre for Islamic Banking, Finance and Management (CIBFM), is the centre of excellence for the finance industry under the purview of BDCB, providing high-quality learning solutions and organises signature and collaborative events for human capacity development in Islamic finance and leadership.
