Hiking trails of trash

Littering is one of those hard-to-shake-off issues that has been plaguing the country for decades.

Despite the authorities’ countless attempts in deterring the public from trashing public spaces through hefty fines, there are still a fair number of people who simply do not get the message.

Take for example hiking trails introduced during pandemic times to accommodate the increasing number of health-focussed individuals. While it is good to see them flocking to these recreational parks, it is more heartbreaking to see a trail of trash left behind by some hikers.

The maintenance of these parks shouldn’t rest on the shoulders of authorities. Frequenters to these spots should feel equally compelled to keep the facilities clean. After all, do we regularly trash our own homes?
