Hikers ready to scale Japan’s Mount Fuji

Four local hikers are on a mission to make the Sultanate proud and hoist the national flag when they embark on an expedition to climb Mount Fuji in Japan this week.

The delegation comprises Mohamad Ezrith bin Haji Edin as team leader, Muhd Hadi Zakwan bin Haji Muhd Hassanal Mega, Mohd Alisam bin Haji Momin and Muhd Khairul Anuar bin Haji Sabli. According to Mohamad Ezrith, the expedition will take place from August 9 to 13 at Yoshida Trail at Mount Fuji, Japan.

He also thanked sponsors for their generosity in realising the expedition.

He said, “Climbing a mountain is an annual programme for me, with the first mountain in Mount Kinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia back in 2022. I then went on to scale Mount Rinjani in Lombok, Indonesia last year. Mount Fuji will be my third climb.”

Mohamad Ezrith admitted that hiking and climbing activities demand sufficient preparation both mentally and physically.

Sharing about their preparations, Mohamad Ezrith further explained that a month before the expedition, they had undergone endurance training to ensure their bodies are at their best conditions for the expedition.

He also said the involvement of Bruneians in overseas hiking activities is becoming increasingly impressive, such as climbing Mount Kinabalu, as the location is easy to reach and near Brunei.

He advised those interested in hiking to pursue their passion, adding that there is an option to do it solo or with friends. – Rokiah Mahmud
