Legislative Council (LegCo) member, Yang Berhormat Mohammad bin Abdullah @ Lim Swee Ann called for rest areas to be provided along along the Belait, Tutong and Muara highways during yesterday’s 19th LegCo session.
The LegCo member cited complaints and feedback from road users, including foreign commuters, on the lack of highway rest stops and public amenities such as toilets, convenience stores and prayer halls, and inquired on if there are any plans to build such facilities along the country’s highways.
Minister of Development Yang Berhormat Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Muhammad Juanda bin Haji Abdul Rashid said several locations along the highway from Muara to Belait have been identified that could offer several amenities for road users.
However, the matter is still in discussion at the ministerial level, along with the relevant stakeholders, said the minister.
