The Bangladesh High Commission recently celebrated Bangladesh Day at the Institute for Leadership, Innovation and Advancement (ILIA), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).
The event held in collaboration with UBD was attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, Bangladeshi community in the Sultanate, UBD faculty members and students from Bangladesh, members of civil society, officials and staff from the High Commission and UBD. Bangladeshi High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona hailed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Father of the Nation, as the greatest Bangalee.
She also said the visit by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2019, which was reciprocated by a visit from His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, injected a new dynamism to the bilateral relations between the two nations.
The high commissioner also noted the ‘Bangabandhu Fellowship’ awarded to UBD students and hoped more Bruneian students would visit different Bangladeshi universities in the future.
The event featured a video on the tourism potential of Bangladesh and followed by a talk from former ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Timor-Leste Norazlianah binti Haji Ibrahim, who shared with attendees on her adventures during her recent visit to Bangladesh.
The high commissioner also contributed books to the UBD library and led guests on a tour of a mini exhibition that showcased the history and cultural legacy of Bangladesh. – Lyna Mohamad
