Growth in agriculture, fisheries sectors over last three years

Over the last three years, the agriculture, fishery and agrifood sectors have grown in gross output in metric tonnes and value, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) Hajah Tutiaty binti Haji Abdul Wahab said.

She said this at the 13th Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen’s Day celebration at the Simpur Hall, Agribusiness Centre, Rimba yesterday.

Minister of Primary Resources and Tourism Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin was the guest of honour.

Hajah Tutiaty said, “The gross output value for the agricultural industry, including livestock, crops and paddy industries, has increased by 26.7 per cent, from BND323.61 million in 2020 to BND406.79 million in 2022.

“For the fisheries sector, the gross output value increased by 51.9 per cent, from BND139.05 million in 2020 to BND 211.21 million in 2022.”

She added that in September, the Sultanate through cooperation of the MPRT with Darussalam Enterprise (DARe) marked a major milestone with the export of processed meat and frozen food products from BMC Food Industries (B) Sdn Bhd, PDS Abattoir Sdn Bhd and Royal Brunei Culinary Sdn Bhd to Sabah.

In the same month, the MPRT with the cooperation of DARe also carried out the first export of processed food products from Marimin Sdn Bhd, Sahamada Sdn Bhd, Ghanim International Corporation Sdn Bhd, Taurean Bakeshop and Sabli Food Industries (B) Sdn Bhd to Mustafa Centre, Singapore.

Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Abdul Manaf also presented the Farmers, Livestock Breeders and Fishermen’s Day awards.

Themed ‘Memperkasa Produk Tambah Nilai, Pemacu Ekonomi Negara’, this year’s celebration focuses on increasing production through value added products, taking into account the country’s efforts in ensuring food security. – James Kon
