Pride and patriotism for the nation’s independence reverberated in the Temburong District with the hosting of the giant national flag in conjunction with the 41st National Day celebration held at the Mukim Bangar Community Hall Complex in Bangar Saturday.
Acting Temburong District Officer Awang Hassan Baha bin Haji Umar was the guest-of-honour.
Legislative Council member Yang Berhormat Awang Haji Sulaiman bin Haji Nasir; Acting Assistant District Officer Awang Haji Mohamad Azmi bin Haji Suhaili as the Ceremony Chairperson; Section Heads of Temburong District Government Departments; Acting Mukim Penghulus; Village Heads; Acting Village Heads; invited guests and associations.
The ceremony commenced with the reading of the Surah Al Fatihah and Doa Selamat led by Kampung Belais Mosque Affairs Officer Ahmad Muhtadi bin Madeli followed by the handing over of the giant national flag from the guest of honour to a member of the Royal Brunei Police Force to mark the Flag Raising Ceremony accompanied by the playing of the national anthem “Allah Peliharakan Sultan” by students from the Sultan Hassan Temburong Secondary School.

Filled with patriotic spirits, the school’s choir also belted ‘Bendera Negara’ and ‘Brunei Bumi Bertuah’ in rhythm and harmony.
The event continued with the distribution of national flags to Acting Mukim Penghulus and Section Heads of Temburong District Government Departments.
More than a dozen police personnel were involved with the folding sequence of the procedure shortly before the giant national flag was raised.
As giant national flag was seen flying proudly, the police personnel then marched out of the parking space to make their exit.
Members of the Girl Guides and Scouts were among those who made an appearance in the ceremony.
Following yesterday’s ceremony, scores of national flags are visibly raised not only across the district but nationwide.
Persons with Pengiran-Pengiran titles and distinguished persons must raise their personal flags at their residence.
Members of the public, government buildings and companies premises are required to raise the national flag starting yesterday until February 25. – Fadhil Yunus
