Futsal competition marks royal birthday

Futsal teams from across the Belait District gathered at the Mumong Sports Complex on Sunday to compete in a futsal tournament held in conjunction with the 77th birthday celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The teams included Remix FT, Sayur-Sayuran FC, Ex Perdana, and Belingkarong FC in the open category, while Tim Mangalela, KB Warriors, and KB Series FT competed in the veteran category.

Acting Belait District Officer Haji Amirol Hafidzin bin Haji Muhammad also participated in a futsal match with the tournament committee members, which ended with the Acting Belait District Officer’s team winning by a one-goal lead in a series of free kicks to decide the winner as the normal match concluded with a 0-0.

The final match for the veteran category saw KB Series FT winning against KB Warriors 3-0.

Meanwhile, Belikarong FC were placed first in the open category, followed by Sayur-Sayuran FC. The remaining team received consolation prizes, presented by the Acting Belait District Officer.

In addition, a special fair play award was also handed to Remix FT as well as a number of best player awards to select team members from both categories. – Daniel Lim
