Crowds of people from as far as Kuala Belait flocked to Kampong Batang Mitus early in the morning to purchase the wide array of fruits and other local produce sold at the Tamu Ria event on Sunday.
Organised by the Kampong Pengkalan Mau, Bakiau and Batang Mitus Village Consultative Councils, the event aimed to showcase local fruits and products at bargain prices. Among the fruits selling were durian, rambutan, kembayau, tarap and langsat, alongside fresh vegetables and preserved items such as binjai and belunu.
There were also popular items, such as meritam, manggis and pulasan, as well as unique handicrafts.
Visitors said they found a variety of fruits while the prices were reasonable. Children interviewed by the Bulletin said they were thrilled to see a variety of fruit at one place.
Vendors were also pleased with the sales.
They said the visitors savoured a variety of fruits, before purchassing them. A similar event, Festival Kiudang, will be held from August 23 to 23 at the Gerai Muafakat Kampong Kiudang to showcase its ethnic harmony.
The festival will also feature a cultural show as well as grills and live cooking stations. – Lyna Mohamad
