Some 40 people attended a knowledge-sharing event on record preservation organised by the Brunei History Centre (PSB) through its Borneo Research Centre (penBORNEO).
Themed ‘Appreciate Our Records’, the programme aimed to share insights gained by PSB conservation officer Ataillah bin Haji Julaihi during his work placement at the National Library of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He shared techniques on preserving and conserving important records to protect them from damage.
The overseas placement is part of PSB’s efforts to become a centre of excellence for Brunei’s history and the Sultanate.
It aims to enhance the skills, knowledge and professionalism of officers and academics.
Acting Principal of Brunei History Centre Pengiran Hajah Mahani binti Pengiran Haji Ahmad was the guest of honour. Acting deputy principal of the Brunei History Centre Dr Mardiah binti Haji Ramli was also present.
Participants also had the chance to view exhibitions and demonstrations on record preservation and conservation, and toured the record storage room at penBORNEO.
The programme’s objectives included raising the PBS’s profile as a leading history resource centre, promoting penBORNEO as a key research centre for the island and exposing participants to international practices in record preservation. – Azlan Othman
