Four detained for smuggling, contraband possession

The Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) through its law enforcement division detained three locals for possessing contraband and another local for attempted vape smuggling.
RCED enforcement personnel conducted two separate operations at Kampong Madewa and Kampong Perpindahaan Lambak Kanan.
The first operation in Kampong Madewa on May 28 saw the RCED detain a 38-year-old local man for possessing 650 cartons and 20 sticks of cigarettes.
A vehicle believed to be used for carrying out smuggling activities was also seized.
The second operation on May 31 in Kampong Perpindahaan Lambak Kanan saw two locals, aged 40 and 42, detained for possessing contraband.
Enforcement personnel found 278 units of vape and 21 bottles of vape juice, with one box, five sets and 13 pieces of vape accessories. Five cartons, 13 packets and 22 sticks of cigarettes were also seized.
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old woman was detained for attempting to smuggle 48 units of vape through Brunei International Airport on June 3.
RCED reminded the public to comply with the country’s law and regulations and to avoid smuggling or being in possession of contraband which is an offence under section 146 of Excise Order 2006.
