Four apprehended in connection with 32 house break-ins, thefts

Four suspects believed to be involved in a recent series of thefts were apprehended by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).

The group of suspects, who are locals comprising two men and two women, were detained in separate locations in Brunei-Muara District through the continuous efforts in tracing the criminals by the RBPF with the cooperation of the public.

The arrest has resulted in the discovery of believed to be stolen items from thefts in dwellings that have happened over the past few months in the areas of Bandar Seri Begawan, Kiulap, Berakas and Gadong, according to the RBPF.

Detailed investigation conducted by the House Break-In and Car Theft Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department found the syndicate was involved in around 32 cases reported in the said areas.

Currently, all the suspects have been remanded to complete investigations.

The case will be mentioned on August 24 where charges will be read out for offences including Section 457 of the Penal Code which is lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night to commit offence punishable with imprisonment. If found guilty, the offenders can face imprisonment of not more than 15 years with whipping. – James Kon
