A foundation laying ceremony for the expansion of Kampong Salambigar Mosque was held yesterday.
The new building project aims to accommodate an additional 700 congregants.
The project is scheduled to be completed by July 2024 and costs around BND770,300.
The funding came from donations and personal endowments (waqaf) from the public.
Minister of Health Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar poured the cement into the foundation.
The ceremony began with a mass Subuh prayer followed by the recitation of Surah Al-Kahfi led by mosque imam Haji Abdul Halim bin Haji Bungsu.
Haji Sammali bin Haji Adam delivered a talk.
The minister visited an exhibition on the details of the expansion project.
The additional building construction is expected to cater to more congregants, particularly during Friday and Sunnat Hari Raya prayers.
Among the facilities included in the expansion are a funeral rites room, a multi-purpose room, as well as toilet and ablution areas. – Azlan Othman
