The High Court recently sentenced a former uniformed personnel to three years in prison, along with three strokes of whipping, for sexually assaulting a minor.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in January 2023 at a family home in Temburong, where the defendant’s 15-year-old sister-in-law was present.
The defendant sat close to the victim on a sofa and made unwanted physical contact. He then observed a drawing on the victim’s phone and instructed her to delete it. The defendant’s actions made the victim uncomfortable, and she later confided in her younger niece, who informed a teacher.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police and the Department of Community Development (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The defendant was arrested and admitted to his actions. – FADLEY FAISAL
