Two Indonesian men were ordered by the Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to settle fines of BND5,000 each after they pleaded guilty to charges of possessing smuggled cigarettes.
Edo Slamet, 30, and Ari Andriansyah, 26, would have to serve five months’ jail in default of payment of the fines.
Senior Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana binti Haji Abdul Rahman heard from the customs prosecutor that the duo were arrested at a house in Kampong Katok on May 9.
Customs preventive officers found that each defendant had kept a carton, three packets and 13 sticks of smuggled cigarettes.
