The Brunei Council of Social Welfare (MKM) started its iftar distribution from the first day of Ramadhan in Bangladesh and the second day of Ramadhan in Brunei.

This has been MKM’s annual programme since 2017. Fundraising for this programme began in March. The donations enable the distribution of 880 food packs per day to the needy in Brunei for 15 days and 1,200 packs per day in Bangladesh throughout Ramadhan.

Some 583 iftar packs are being distributed in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts each day managed by MKM Youth Wing head Abang Masrur bin Abang Zainuddin with 60 volunteers.

Meanwhile, MKM Executive member Dr Hajah Kamariah heads the distribution of 145 food packs in Temburong District while MKM Executive member Hajah Zaiton binti Salim leads delivery in Belait District of 160 Iftar meals.

MKM, which runs a school for 500 Rohingya refugees in Cox Bazar, is also distributing food to poor Bangladeshi communities in its vicinity.

MKM’s President Mohd Yusof bin Halim said, “The response to our donation drive has been overwhelming and we are thankful to our donors for making it possible to run this programme – since 2017 – in Brunei and Bangladesh.”
