Focus on self-defence at Silat workshop for youth

A silat workshop which saw 120 participants comprising youth aged 12 to 30 yesterday, aimed to increase youth participation in silat as a self-defence mechanism against bullying and harassment, while also preserving an element of Brunei’s cultural heritage.

Projek Silat Ar-Rahim, organised by officers from the Young Executive Programme Cohort-9, was held at An-Najah hall at the Civil Service Institute (IPA) in Kampong Rimba.

The project was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Language and Literature Bureau of Kampong Sengkurong and the Brunei Darussalam Pencak Silat Federation (PERSIB). Acting Director of the IPA Haji Yusma Ariffin bin Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof officiated the event.

The workshop featured presentations by the organisers and demonstrations by Silat coaches from PERSIB. Participants learnt various silat techniques, including Seni Bunga and Seni Buah.
