Personnel from the Enforcement Division of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board issued a BND500 compound fine to a local contractor for indiscriminate dumping yesterday.
The contractor in Seria was discovered to have disposed unwanted construction material at the X-17 open field at Jalan Maulana.
The company was issued the compound fine under Chapter 30, Section 12 (1)(f)(ii) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, and given seven days to settle the fine, failing which the matter will be taken to court.
If found guilty, the accused will be handed a further BND1,000 fine or one-month imprisonment, while subsequent offences will result in a penalty of a BND3,000 fine or imprisonment not exceeding three months.
The Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Board reminded the public and business owners to ensure the cleanliness of their surroundings. Enforcement Division personnel routinely conduct patrols to ensure trash is disposed at designated areas. Compound fines will also be imposed on individuals who dispose trash at commercial building bin centres, designated specifically for use by business owners, such as at the Pasarneka Kuala Belait or Gerai Bunga Simpur.
