The Law Enforcement Division of the Labour Department conducted an operation on October 2 to ensure employers comply with the Employment Order 2009.
During inspections in the commercial areas of Kampong Sengkurong commercial area, two violations were uncovered – the failure to grant employees public holidays as stipulated under Section 70 of the Order and failure to provide paid annual leave as required under Section 71 of the Order. Employers may face fines of up to BND1,000.
The Labour Department reminded all employers to comply with the Employment Order 2009, particularly with regard to granting public holidays and ensuring employees receive a minimum of seven days of paid annual leave in their first year of service, with incremental increases thereafter. – Fadley Faisal
