A local woman found in possession of smuggled cigarettes at her residence was ordered to settle a BND8,000 fine by the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Acting Senior Magistrate Dewi Norlelawati binti Haji Abdul Hamid ordered 64-year-old Sokot @ Siti Nurkhairiyah Sorhana binti Abdul Rani to serve eight months’ jail in default of payment after she pleaded guilty to possession of 10 cartons of cigarettes of various brands.
The Customs prosecutor informed the court that Customs preventive officers inspected the defendant’s house at Kampong Tumpuan Telisai, Jalan Danau at 2.22pm on April 2.
The court ordered the seized cigarettes to be forfeited and destroyed.
