Pekan Tutong was abuzz as people gathered on Saturday evening for the festive celebration held in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 78th birthday.
The festival, organised by the Tutong Municipal Department with the aid of volunteers from the district, saw a parade of some 300 participants, including ethnic groups, youth and community associations as well as the Prisons Department’s brass band.
The Mukim Telisai Consultative Council also held a decorative lighting showcase for bicycles.
The festival was capped with a firework display at the Sungai Tutong signage landmark.
The Tutong festival was held to mark the success of celebratory events in the district for the monarch’s 78th birthday and as an appreciation for the participants. – James Kon
