An Iban family in the Belait District recited the Syahadah and embraced Islam yesterday as part of a ceremony held at RPN Kampong Panaga.
Leading the family of four in reciting the Syahadah was 41-year-old Sebester Demu anak Uli who adopted the name Muhammad Sulaiman bin Abdullah Uli. His 16-year-old son Deon Stanley anak Sebester Demu, took on the name Muhammad Amsyar Danial bin Muhammad Sulaiman.
Muhammad Sulaiman’s wife Zuriah binti Bundan, 40, adopted the name Nur Rania Zahra binti Muhammad Sofian, while 18-year-old Sheirly Elyana anak Sebester Demu embraced her new name Nur Haura Mikayla binti Muhammad Sulaiman. Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim bin Pengiran Haji Hassan was the guest of honour, accompanied by his wife.
Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Mohd Tashim presented a token of appreciation to the converts, followed by the sprinkling of scented oil and flowers on the family accompanied by the recitation of Dikir Marhaban.
The Belait District Dakwah Unit has recorded 12 converts since the start of 2024 in the district.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) Haji Mohammad Rosli bin Haji Ibrahim, Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Religious) at the MoRA Haji Abdul Rajid bin Haji Mohd Salleh, Acting Director of the Islamic Da’wah Centre Haji Ahmad Abdussalam bin Haji Abdul Rahman and Head Religious Officer at the Belait District Religious Affairs Office Mohammad Aliyani bin Ismail were present. – Daniel Lim
