A fire erupted in a two-storey house in Kampong Bunut early yesterday, damaging it extensively.
The rented house was completely gutted, resulting in the loss of all belongings of the occupants, according to Kampong Tasek Meradun and Kampong Bunut Village Head Ahmad Hussaini bin Haji Mohsin.
The fire also affected a neighbouring property but was extinguished in time to prevent further spread.
The destroyed house was occupied by two Malay locals, three Indonesians, and three Filipinos.
“Fortunately, there were no casualties in the incident. But their belongings were all damaged as they were not able to retrieve them on time. Cars parked in the compound were also destroyed by the fire,” said Ahmad Hussaini. Promptly responding to the incident, firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department arrived at the scene around 8am and brought the fire under control.
Personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force were present along with officers from the Community Development Department at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, and representatives from the Indonesian and the Philippines embassies in the Sultanate.
The cause of the fire and estimated losses are currently under investigation.
