Envoy hosts river cruise to mark successful conclusion of Paris Olympics

The French Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Eve Lubin, hosted a river cruise on the Brunei River yesterday evening to celebrate the successful conclusion of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and the Paris Olympics Games.

Brunei national sprinter and two-time Olympian Muhammad Noor Firdaus Ar-Rasyid bin Haji Idris, who competed in the 100-metre race at the Paris Olympics, attended along with his spouse. Lubin, in her remarks, said, “The Paris Olympics Games ceremony began with a cruise on the Seine, the river that flows through Paris, the City of Light.

“Our celebration today mirrors that experience with a cruise on the Brunei River,” the envoy said.

She also said, “We are very happy to have one of the Brunei athletes who competed in the Paris Olympics here with us.”

During the cruise, guests had the opportunity to speak with Muhammad Noor Firdaus Ar Rasyid about his experiences at the Olympics.

United States Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Caryn R McClelland, Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Maeda Toru and German Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Gerda Winkler attended the event. Alliance Francaise de Brunei Darussalam president Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah, and other guests were also present. – James Kon
