The Russian Embassy in Brunei Darussalam hosted the Great Victory Day reception yesterday at its premises in RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan.
Russian Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Mikhail Vladimirovich Baranov opened the event with welcoming remarks, detailing the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) and allies’ role during the World War II. “We must not forget these events to prevent history from repeating itself and to ensure that nationalism do not rise again in Europe.
“The memory of the sacrifices made by the Soviet people and the lessons learnt from this war should serve as a reminder of the need for peace, unity, and vigilance against the forces of hatred and extremism,” said the ambassador.
Attendees were also shown a short film and given the opportunity to tour a photography exhibition of moments during the war.
