Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin yesterday called for the easing of regulations around staff quarters at farms, describing them to be akin to “building a residential house”.
At yesterday’s 19th LegCo session, Yang Berhormat Pengiran Haji Isa noted the regulations to build staff quarters on site are the same as those for building a residential house, which adds to the cost.
He believed that it may discourage entrepreneurs from starting a farm, and suggested the loosening of regulations, or allowance of temporary staff quarters.
LegCo Speaker Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib gave leave to respond on the issue, noting it requires discussion among several agencies, including the Authority for Building Control and Construction Industry, the Department of Water Services, and the Department of Electrical Services.
