DPMM FC have been drawn in Group ‘A’ of the Singapore Cup 2023 following an official draw ceremony at Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore last Thursday.
The Gegar-Gegar men have been drawn alongside newly-crowned Singapore Premier League (SPL) champions Albirex Niigata (S), Geylang International, Young Lions and Tampines Rovers.
Meanwhile, Group ‘B’ consist of reigning champions Hougang United, Balestier Khalsa, Lion City Sailors, and Tanjong Pagar United.
The Brunei-based outfit will return to the competition for the first time since 2019.
DPMM FC has been away from the league and cup competitions in the past few seasons due to COVID-19 restrictions.
However, they returned to the SPL after years of absence, albeit a home-less ground due to ongoing renovation at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium.
DPMM FC’s best appearance in the Singapore Cup came in 2018 when they finished runners-up to Albirex Niigata (S).
The Singapore Cup, the premier cup competition in the country, remains elusive in the club’s trophy cabinet. The Brunei club won the league twice in 2015 and 2019 and lifted the Singapore League Cup title three times in 2009, 2012 and 2014.
The competition is scheduled to commence on September 24. – Fadhil Yunus
