Double celebrations at Bangladesh High Commission

The Bangladesh High Commission in Brunei Darussalam yesterday commemorated the 40th National Day alongside International Mother Language Day at its premises in Tanah Jambu.

The event featured performances and a cake-cutting led by Bangladesh High Commissioner to Brunei Darussalam Nahida Rahman Shumona in the presence of invited guests including Turkish Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Professor Dr Hamit Ersoy and spouse Lale Esroy.President of Reading and literacy Association of Brunei (ReLA) Dr Malai Zeiti binti Sheikh Abdul Hamid and President of the Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Liakat Ali Sorkar also attended.

The Bangladeshi community who participated in the recent 40th National Day grand assembly at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas, also joined the celebration.

The event saw a mini sketch and speeches by students of St Andrew’s School and Chung Hwa Middle School while the poetry recital was presented by students from Universiti Teknologi Brunei. Two Turkish language students also recited Turkish poetry. Special needs individuals from La Vida wooed the crowd with group dances and solo guitar performances.

The event, a collaboration between the Bangladesh High Commission, ReLA, Turkish Embassy, and La Vida, highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and celebration of linguistic diversity. – Lyna Mohamad
