Trial has been fixed to run in May 2024 involving an assistant superintendent of customs (ASC) on charges of criminal breach of trust.

ASC Suyati binti Haji Ahmad Besar pleaded not guilty on March 29 to the three charges of criminal breach of trust by a public servant.

Judge Radin Safiee bin Radin Mas Basiuni fixed trial to run from May 6 to 29, 2024 and released the defendant on BND10,000 bail, or in two local sureties.

Prosecutor Shamshuddin bin Haji Kamaluddin’s charges drafted based on the Anti-Corruption Bureau investigations allege that ASC Suyati, while she was attached to the Finance Unit of the Royal Customs and Excise Department (RCED) as the head of finance, had misappropriated BND982,349.12 in cash, payments of overtime, mileage and shift allowance claims made by the RCED officers.

The defendant is represented by defence counsel Sheikh Azry bin Sheikh Hassan of Messrs Ridzlan and Co.
