Chinese and Indian cultural performances wowed crowds in the Belait District on Sunday during the nightly performances at gerai perayaan in Tudung Saji, Kuala Belait.
The performances were organised by the Belait District Tiong Hua Association and the Indian Association Belait (IAB) in conjunction with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar’ Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 77th birthday celebration.
Acting Assistant Belait District Officer Mohamad Abdul Hadi bin Haji Mohd Syarifuddin was in attendance. Chairman Raymond Hong noted that the performances aimed at showcasing the diverse cultural heritage in the Sultanate that have gathered to celebrate His Majesty’s birthday.
“We are grateful to celebrate His Majesty’s birthday on the stage as a community. We hope to support the performers from each association as they perform to their heart’s content tonight,” he added.
The night began with three performances from the Indian community led by the youth and members from IAB, followed by a showcase of songs, dances and festive drumbeat acts. – Daniel Lim
