Cultivating cooperative spirit

Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), through its Faculty of Agricultur, organised a visit to Hasmit Enterprise paddy fields and goat farms at Kampong Wasan recently.

The excursion aimed at cultivating cooperation between the university and the community, while providing the students with exposure, experience and skills in agriculture and animal husbandry as part of their course module, Agronomy and Animal Husbandry.

The participants, comprising 14 first-year students in Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Agribusiness) programme, six lecturers and five staffers, were briefed on the manual planting of paddy using a transplanter.

The three types of paddy cultivated on the farm are MRQ76, Sembada 188 and Titih, the students were told.

The director of Hasmit Enterprise also shared his experience and knowledge on farm management.

The students took a closer look at the management of goat farm and the goat milk processing operation.

The group also visited Kampong Wasan paddy farm to see the progress of crops a month after cultivation.
