Cultivating a culture of reading

Some 483 children from Taman Asuhan Kanak-Kanak Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (TASKA YSHHB) took part in a ‘Masked Readers Week’ reading event at TASKA YSHHB hall on Monday.

TASKA YSHHB Acting Principal Hajah Mariam binti Haji Ladi was present along with Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) members.

The programme began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a talk on Surah Al-’Alaq and the importance of reading Al-Quran. A prize presentation for best readers in both English and Malay languages was also held.

Among the activities featured at the event were Sang Arnab and Sang Kura Kura performances, singing songs from storybooks, a short overview of online books, book sales and a visit to DBP’s mobile library.

The Masked Readers Week aimed to cultivate reading among children, emphasising the role of books as a gateway to knowledge. – Adib Noor
