Minister of Education Datin Seri Setia Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh received a courtesy call from Deputy Trade Commissioner for Southeast Asia Rhiannon Harries as the head of delegation for the United Kingdom (UK) Trade Mission at Conference Hall 1 of the Ministry of Education (MoE) on Tuesday.
During the courtesy call, the minister highlighted the robust partnership between Brunei Darussalam and the UK in the realms of education.
She also reiterated the MoE’s commitment in strengthening these ties to achieve quality education. Following the courtesy call, a roundtable discussion was held where several presentations were made by the delegation members of the UK Trade Mission which included representatives from Cambridge University Press, Pearson, uTalk, University of Newcastle, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC).
The discussion’s objective was to explore potential partnerships between British and Brunei Darussalam organisations in the field of education.
Deputy High Commissioner at the British High Commission in Brunei Darussalam Catherine Pochkhanavala-Cleeve accompanied the deputy trade commissioner.
Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE Dr Shamsiah Zuraini Kanchanawati binti Haji Tajuddin, Rector of Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Norarfan bin Haji Zainal, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE Dr Chin Wei Keh, Universiti Brunei Darussalam Assistant Vice-Chancellor Dr Joyce Teo Siew Yean, Universiti Teknologi Brunei Assistant Vice-Chancellor Dr Mohamad Saiful bin Haji Omar and senior officials from the MoE and British High Commission were also present. – James Kon
