Contract inked on marine maintenance, decommissioning yard

A contract between Anson International Sdn Bhd and Petrofac South East Asia (B) Sdn Bhd was officially inked at a ceremony at the office of Anson International in Pekan Muara yesterday.

The contract covers the provision of project management services to construct the marine maintenance yard and decommissioning yard in Pulau Muara Besar.

Director Muhammad Luqman Hakeem bin Haji Musa for Anson International in the presence of Interim General Manager Haji Musa bin Haji Adnin and Vice President (International Operations) Alex Hosie for Petrofac in the presence of Project Director (Project Management) Robert Worton were the signatories.

Haji Musa noted that the major public-private partnership was created to establish Brunei’s very first integrated marine maintenance yard and decommissioning yard.

Situated on the northwest of Pulau Muara Besar with a total allocated area of of 11 hectares, the yard will provide a safe and self-sustainable world-class facility serving the marine and decommissioning needs of Brunei and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

He added that Anson International is supported by key stakeholders, including the Brunei Economic Development Board, Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd, and departments under the Ministry of Finance and Economy.

The yard, he said, will be operational from 2025, providing services such as decommissioning, dismantlement and recycling services for offshore assets as well as vessel maintenance and repair via the slipways.

The awarding of Petrofac will formally initiate the construction phase of the marine maintenance yard and decommissioning yard.

Haji Musa reiterated their commitment to the long-term success of the project, which will contribute to Brunei’s ambition to develop an in-country maritime cluster and support and diversify the nation’s economy.

“We look forward to the progress and mutual success of our cooperation with Petrofac.

“Therefore, the decision to have the current operations and administration team, in close proximity to Pulau Muara Besar, is to assist in the process of construction.”

The awarding is a stepping stone for Anson International’s venture, and marks the beginning of the construction phase.

Anson International through Petrofac will engage and develop the local market as part of the project commitment for in-country value.

The ceremony concluded with a Hari Raya celebration.
