Continued active weather as Northeast Monsoon persists

Brunei Darussalam remains under the grip of the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as the Tengkujuh season, as active weather conditions are set to continue until next Tuesday. The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) has issued advisories warning of unstable weather, with occasional heavy and thundery showers expected across the country.

Inland areas could experience intense showers during the afternoon, with these conditions potentially spreading to coastal and sea areas during the night and early morning hours. Wind gusts can reach up to 50 km/h near showers, adding to the potential for hazardous conditions.

Over Brunei waters, the sea state is expected to be moderate to rough, with wave heights ranging between 1.0 to 2.5 meters. These conditions pose risks to small boat operations, sea recreational activities, and sports, prompting authorities to advise caution.

Residents in low-lying and flood-prone areas, particularly near river banks, are urged to remain vigilant due to the heightened risk of flash floods during periods of continuous heavy rain and high tide. Additional hazards such as landslides, fallen trees, and flying debris are also possible amid gusty conditions.
