Kampong Belimbing’s Village Consultative Council (MPK Belimbing) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysia’s Management and Science University (MSU) agreeing to cooperate in aspects of community building and human capital development, as well as research and education of the United Nation’s sustainable development goals (SDGs) yesterday.

As MSU’s adopted village, Kampong Belimbing will be the centre for community activities involving MSU alumni in Brunei, the local community and school students.

In an interview, MSU President Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Dr Mohd Shukri Ab Yajid said the cooperation was organised by the Brunei Chapter of the MSU Alumni.

“This is one of the major programmes of MSU to instil the culture of SDGs,” he said. “In this context, we have established numerous programmes across Malaysia but we have also brought this programme around the world.

“Today, we are thankful that the Kampong Belimbing community has accepted our programme through the Alumni MSU Brunei Chapter.

Prior to the signing, a number of activities promoting awareness on SDGs were also held, including a brisk walk around the Tasik Sarubing Recreational Park, a SDG pledge wall and a tree planting ceremony. Around 20 schools participated in the activities.

Community activities such as cleaning and beautifying the landscape around the recreational park, facility upgrades and tree plantings have been held since last September.
