Concern over shaming of errant drivers on social media

The rise of social media groups dedicated to exposing bad driving behaviours has allowed motorists to share concerns and raise awareness on dangerous habits. However, a concerning trend has recently emerged: the posting of licence plates in dash cam videos and photos.

While the frustration with reckless driving is understandable, publicising licence plates, in my opinion, is a step too far. It could lead to targeted harassment, vandalism, and even violence towards the errant drivers.

These community groups should instead focus on sharing clear descriptions of the vehicles, locations and specific violations observed. This would allow authorities to investigate and hold these drivers accountable.

Our collective goal is to create safer roads, not foster a culture of online vigilantism.
