Civilisation in focus at Malay Language congress

The Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) continued the International Malay Language, Literature and Culture Congress (KABSBM) series via Facebook Live and Zoom application yesterday.

The 18th presentation series featured a keynote paper titled ‘Literature and Women’s Development: Examining the Pre-U Novel Text of the Malay Literary Component’ by Education Officer at Duli Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College Dr Faridah binti Abdul Hamid.

The congress was chaired by DBP Language Officer Sharyanty binti Haji Md Sharif.

The presentation discussed a Malay literature component that has developed in line with the civilisation. It also featured two novels to showcase literary work as an educational tool that can contribute to the human progress.

Some 133 participants took part in the virtual congress including Deputy Permanent Secretary (Culture) at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr Siti Norkhalbi binti Haji Wahsalfelah; DBP Acting Director Suip bin Haji Abdul Wahab; DBP Acting Deputy Director Hajah Sariani binti Haji Ishak, local and international presenters, DBP strategic partners, senior government officers, as well as local and international language, literature and culture enthusiasts.

KABSBM is supported by Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali, Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan, Brunei Youth Council, Asterawani and Putra Seni Group.

The congress will see three keynote and 20 accompanying papers delivered on Mondays and Wednesdays until June 22.
