No citizen is exempted from contributing to national development, Minister of Home Affairs Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin bin Haji Abdul Rahman said at the 36th citizenship certificate presentation at the Chancellor Hall of Universiti Brunei Darussalam yesterday.

Coinciding with the 39th National Day celebration, the minister highlighted the relevance of the theme, ‘Menjayakan Wawasan Negara’, to the 659 individuals who received their Brunei citizenship certificates.

“Development refers to efforts to change a community or country from backward situation to progress not only physically but also of mind and culture, so that people in the country can compete and progress in accordance with needs that are in line with the changing times as well as technological advancements.”

He also urged citizens to join hands in protecting the country by resisting negative influences within or without the Sultanate.

“Development should not be allowed to erode, thus we as Bruneians must maintain and support civilisation and morality,” he said.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin underscored defending sovereignty, peace and security for the well-being of the people by supporting government policies as important elements in carrying out governance.

Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Ahmaddin added, “We are thankful to Allah the Almighty because under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, our country has enjoyed peace for a long time.

“This is a priceless gift from Allah the Almighty that cannot be bought with money. Therefore, we as the subjects of His Majesty must work together in ensuring peace through staying united, respecting each other, promoting tolerance in the community and upholding Malay Islamic Monarchy.”

He also congratulated the recipients and thanked the officers and staff of the Immigration and National Registration Department as well as others involved.
